Shropshire plastics recycling campaign figures show a great success!

One of our plastics recycling transformations leaflets

We have recently received feedback from our Shropshire plastics recycling campaign and there has been a great response.

The plastics transformation leaflets were delivered in March 2011 to households in North Shropshire. Following this, plastic bottle recycling shot up by almost 10%. Taking the data for the first 8 months following the campaign, we can predict an increase of around 38 tons in North Shropshire's collected plastics per year!

The benefits are obvious. Of course the prime concern is to address the environmental issues but there are also the inherent benefits of recycling a valuable product and saving money on landfill charges.

It is satisfying to see a small investment leading to big changes in peoples behaviour and the gains that this brings. For more information on the campaign take a look at our Shropshire Council: Promoting plastic collections case study.
