Photographic icons: The creation of a new resource
A design is only as strong as its elements. If one part of the design lacks quality the whole appearance will suffer. For this reason, when photography is used, we believe it should be of the highest standard possible.
The brief
With a large proportion of our work coming from local authorities, promoting recycling and environmental issues, we are frequently asked for photographic illustrations of a wide range of recyclables. These are used across advertising, literature and as iconography, clearly identifiable and suitable for use across language barriers.
The problem we encountered is the availability of these materials in high quality and consistently presented photographs. The stock agencies that so many designers rely on for their entire photographic sourcing simply couldn’t supply us with the images we were looking for.
The answer was simple. Using our own photographic team we set about creating a photographic bank of images, exclusively available for use in our clients campaigns. Hundreds of materials were photographed. All images were expertly processed and retouched to the highest standards. Lighting was consistent, as was the angle they were shot from, allowing them to be seamlessly composited together.
The collection continues to be updated as needed. The advantage of this continuous in-house production is the development of imagery and techniques to suit new purposes. One of the latest ranges is a series of recyclables developed to allow the accurate “wrapping” of artwork around them, creating highly realistic labels for use in advertising.
Conclusion
By working with our own photographic team we are able to give our clients an advantage in their literature and campaign materials. A high level of quality in turn boosts the brand identity and attention they will receive from their audience.
In-house photography allows us to develop photographs in collaboration with both our clients and designers. This ensures a result that expresses your message in the most beneficial manner.
The quality of our photography continues to be recognised with large contributions to the photo archives of companies such as WRAP. Commissions are undertaken and images are also used extensively by other clients through our service of licensing photographs for use outside our own in-house productions.
